March 2004

Welcome to Lilliput Lodge's Hull Newsletter, just to let you know what’s been going on around the nursery.

First I would to say hello to our new badgers member Lindsey McAdam, and also Hannah Sharpe who you will be seeing around the nursery. Also a big Hello to Sally–Ann Sutherland our new cook.

Staff News - Kelly celebrates 21st

Diane on the left, Rooms Supervisor, with Kelly Tasker.

Diane is looking at some of the presents given to Kelly by staff on the occasion of Kelly's 21st birthday.

Diane and Kelly work together as part of the team and exemplify the balances that we have in our nurseries between qualifications and life expertise.

We do not as a policy employ people on the basis of working around minimum wage and so our general costs are more expensive in this area. Diane supervises the rooms and ensures we are all working together. Kelly not only celebrates her 21st with us but both of us are proud that Kelly has been with us straight from passing her NNEB qualifications and now with us just two years.

Kelly brings many qualities and now is embarking on developing her personal and supervising skills on both Hull and Hessle sites.Overall her personality team skills and determination are making a positive impact to ensure that Lilliput Lodge maintains and improves its service and team work to all.

Congratulations to Kelly for all that she contributes and to Diane for all the help and support that she gives to the nursery in total!

Here is an update from each room:

Ducklings

What a wonderful time we’ve all been having in the Ducklings room!

We have been busy making lots of lovely things for our room, with Amy, Kelly–Anne and Dianne.

Our topic for January was people who help us and we did lots of messy stuff like painting Fire Engine pictures and colouring Ambulances and Police Cars all good fun.

We decorated our room for Chinese New Year but we didn’t take part in the food tasting because we're only just learning to use spoons and Chopsticks would be a bit ambitious!

Our new topic is “Our Homes”. We have done a big display of our “Pets" Homes in the Duckling room if you would like to pop in and see it.

We have some new little Duckling friends who have recently joined us so a big welcome to Charlie, Mollie, Joshua and Hani. We know you're going to enjoy yourselves, because we have a lovely time. Bye, Bye! Love from the Ducklings xxxx

Squirrels Room

Hello from Rebecca, Hannah and Kelly and all the little Squirrels. We have had a very busy but fun few months. We really enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year, trying lots of new foods and making masks, puppets and a big dragon!

We have also enjoyed making beautiful valentines cards for our beloved during February.

Over the coming months we are going to be preparing lots of Mother Day treats and celebrating St Patrick’s Day—without the Guinness of course!!

With Easter just around the corner we will be decorating eggs ……… I wonder if the Easter Bunny will leave us a little something here at Nursery???

Bumble Bees

A big hello from all the Bumble Bees.

We started off the year talking about people who help us. Up on the wall we had a fantastic Postman Pat display which all the children took part in making. The children were all very excited when a fire engine came to see us, especially when they let them use the water hose!!!!!

Recently we have been discussing Our Homes and the children have been making things like stained glass windows, and bubble paint houses, which they have thoroughly enjoyed. We also talked about the types of housing i.e. flats, caravans, house etc……. And still have lots of great activities coming up in the near future.

Badgers

Hi from all the Badgers!
We hope you had lots of fun over Christmas and New Year!

We did, but we are also glad to come back to Nursery; we have been having so much fun. We had a great Chinese New Year making hats, using chopsticks and even tasting Chinese food! We enjoyed making valentines cards for everyone we love.

This month we have been studying Our Homes – take a look at our fantastic display!

We are now preparing our Buildings Display.

We have had a visit from the Fire Brigade which was great, we sat in the engine and some of us squirted the water, the fire men were very nice so we sent them a thank-you letter and some pictures.

In March we are looking forward to going for a walk to Queens Gardens for a picnic, we are going to take some crayons to draw some pictures.

Kids Club

Hi from Michelle Priest. We are having a great February half term.
Already we have made Junk models, of which we designed, built and painted. We baked lots of yummy things including flapjack and chocolate crunch and are all prepared to visit the Maritime Museum and Fun Junction. To end the week we are having a slumber party day with Popcorn, Videos, and Hot Chocolate and Marshmallows and a game of twister!!!

Planning is now in progress for the Easter Holidays, so anyone who would like to join in the fun are very welcome.

We have recently finished a work experience programme in partnership with Issac Newton School. It started before Christmas and ran for about 6 weeks with two pupils coming on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.

They assisted with the daily running of the nursery from playing through to learning; they were really good, and true professionals. We hope that they got a lot from this learning experience.

The programme has finished now and to say thank–you for our help and support they sent us a thank–you card and a box of chocolates. On our behalf we would like to say thank–you to Issac Newton school for working so well with us. Thank–you and we hope to see you again in the near future.

Any advice or information you require regarding the childcare you receive or about the nursery don’t hesitate to speak to a member of staff who will be happy to help.

Thank you.
