Lilliput Lodge News August 2003Open Day Presentation to Barnardos ![]() On Saturday, 2 August, at our Open Day, we presented a cheque for £150 to Barnardos: on behalf of the staff and parents of the nurseries, for the day's help and involvement by the Booth House Salvation Army in Louth, on the annual Louth walk, sponsored by Lilliput Lodge. (See our July newsletter for pictures of this marathon!)
The people in the photo are from left to right: Virtually all of the staff for our nurseries turned up other than those who were on holiday and all gave their time to support the charity and the nursery. Many thanks to all of them.
A special mention has to be made of a number of people who made super efforts to involve themselves and their families in making and doing things to make the day very much a team effort: Andrea Hardy once again organised and made a variety of cakes and so very much made the cake stall, a great deal of time and effort went into this.
One hidden absentee for the most part of the day was Kelly Tasker who has been with us in Hull from before we opened and has made at times very important contributions to the success of Hull. Kelly put in a great deal of effort over a period of time to acquire many tombola prizes which made the day very good indeed. Dianne Boynton is a great inspiration to all who work with her and gave many prizes only one of which was a brand new sports cycle, and to make the day very much a family affair we felt at one time all her relations were camped out on the site in Hull!!!
We had some special guests of groups we are pleased to be associated with and want to continue to be a part of: Firstly, Major Paul and Margaret Hardy of the Salvation Army, and their children who, with their staff, make such a valuable contribution to many people in Hull. Secondly, Girda, the PA for Alan Gordon Freeman, who runs BP Sirius, who gave a significant contribution to Lilliput Lodge Hull and we continue to keep in contact to mutual interest in the community.
Once again, many thanks to all the staff of Lilliput Lodge who continue to aspire to our motto: making Lilliput Lodge the special P L A C E ie Professional Learning And Caring Environment for the children, and also other staff and parents.
On the social side, all the staff are due to go to a barbeque in Hessle and have also organised and booked the staff Christmas party.
The Holiday Club as we write has record attendances and all is going very well.
In terms of networks we continue to work with and welcome enquiries for job opportunities from people of all backgrounds and abilities and even this week we are assisting and doing all we can to help people find work with organisations such as Humberside Community Partnership.
We have been proactive in approaching schools in the local area to be of help formally with their placements and work closely to give opportunities to people in more deprived areas which is very much part of our remit. We are sorry that until we receive replies from these schools to our initiatives then we cannot give you any further information.
Our "Setting up a Nursery" courses are going well, with interest from as far away as London and Manchester. People are coming to Hull to see how excellent we are (and the city!!) Ray van Spall |
